Vows

This book was inspired by a quote from William Wordsworth's journals. The Irish poet David Whyte quoted this passage in his CD series "Clear Mind, Wild Heart" and I was totally captivated by his reading of it. In it, Wordsworth is speaking about making the decision to rebel against society's expectations and follow the call to be a poet even though that path did not seem to offer the same security as opting to work a normal job.

This was particularly significant for me at the time because I was at a place where I needed to make some tough decisions about whether to keep focusing on freelance graphic design or shift my focus and take myself seriously as a fine artist. Wordsworth's understanding that the call to be an artist is a sacred trust spoke deeply to me.

It is made doubly special because this was the first of my handmade books to be purchased by a major collection. One of the edition was purchased by the University of Denver Penrose Library Special Collections.

Additional copies from the edition are still available for purchase. Please call the studio for catalog prices.

The text reads:

I made no vows,
But Vows were then made for me.
Bond unknown to me was given,
That I should be,
Else sinning greatly,
A dedicated Spirit.
And on I walked in Blessedness,
That even yet…..

Remains.
