When Regis University built their new chapel (completed in 2007) they commissioned artists to create artwork for each of the liturgical seasons. I was asked to create a suite of artwork for the Easter season.

The installation consisted of two 4'x8' panels digitally printed on canvas and overpainted with glazes of acrylics, a silk altar cloth with beaded embellishments, a silk lecturn drape, a silk processional banner and four silk banners for the columns between the windows.

Each Spring, the Earth resurrects as all the plants which have lain dormant during the winter all spring to life anew. To create this Easter Suite, I tapped into that joyous abundance that the Earth exhibits at this season. The lily has historically been linked with Easter. The Crown of Thorns has been given seven points because seven is symbolic of the Church, the Body of Christ made manifest in the Earth. the drop of blood cleanses the whole Earth. The Mariposa Lily is associated with the Trinity because of its three petals. Mary's tears baptize the Earth.
Drawing on imagery from the Lily painting, the altar cloth is digitally printed on silk satin and embellished with beadwork.
The lecturn drape and the processional banner are also digitally printed on silk satin.
