Why Fire Engines are Red

Red Handed is an annual show of works that are 50% or more some shade of red. The show has become a summertime fixture at Tenn Street Coffee in North Denver and it's really fun to see the pieces that artists come up with. This is my 2010 creation for the show, based on the old nonsense bit I remember from childhood about why fire engines are red...

Fire engines are red because they have 8 tires and 4 people ride on them. 8+4=12. There are 12 inches on a ruler. Queen Mary was a ruler. Queen Mary was a ship that sailed the high seas. There are fish in the seas. Fish have fins. The Finns fought the Russians. The Russians are reds. And that's why fire engines are red - 'cus they're always rushin'.

Digital pigment print and acrylic on stuccoed Tyvek, 19"x30", unframed. Why Fire Engines are Red is for sale for $200.
