Black Elk's Grand-daughter This a solar plate relief print with color added a le pupé (with the brush). There is a rich embossed texture from the relief plate. The image is my interpretation of the Sioux Medicine Wheel, with Grandfather Sky and Grandmother Earth at the center and the elements around the perimeter. I find it interesting that in the Native American tradition, the elemental associations with the directions are rotated ninety degrees from the Western tradition. In both traditions, cycles begin in the East, but in the Western tradition the element is Air. It begins with Air (an idea) and ends Earth (material manifestation). In the Native American tradition, cycles start with Fire (passion) and don't end until you have gone past Earth and arrived at Air (taking the idea past the material and into the spiritual realm) . Prints from this edition of 25 are available for purchase either framed ($600) or unframed ($500). The print is 16"x16" on Stonehenge paper
